Agate and Glass Bead Necklace
A traditional Malian wedding gift, this beautiful Agate and Bohemian Glass Bead Seen here in Blue shades, it is also available in various colours. Glass beads from Europe were valued in Africa as they were colourful, rare, not prone to decay in heat or humidity as shells, seeds and nuts are, and easy to use as adornment for nomadic tribes. The beads were traded for gold, ivory, palm oil or slaves. These Bohemian beads were made between 1900 and 1950 and exported mostly to Mali; the pearshaped drops are used as Malian wedding beads.
